Cancer: Is it preventable?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) about a third of cancers could be prevented by eating a healthy diet, being physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight.

Recent research now showing that lifestyle factors might be contributing closer to 90%  as causative factors for cancer.

If the above is even true by 50%, should not  government, charities and medical  institutions place more emphasis on lifestyle?  Not only would this help cancer prevention and treatment, but with a whole host of other potential diseases such as  heart disease and diabetes.

It could be reasonably argued this would be a far more productive use of resources, than spending approximately £2 billion on a  cancer drugs (approximately a third of total cancer budget for uk!) for a relatively meagre return of 2-4%  5 year survival rate for patients on average (

Thus cancer policy at government, charitable and medical institutions requires a radical rethink with a change in emphasis, towards more prevention in general, and a exploration of other more supportive treatments .
